Editor’s Notes

Hello Everyone, I would just like to say a big thank you on behalf of the Parish Residents to all three of the Gas Companies, Centrica, Gassco and Perenco for supplying the Calendar once again. The photos were supplied this year by members of the SKEALS group and cover a good representation of all 4 villages within the Parish. Continued on page two....

Summer Produce Show

Yes, it’s very early to talk about summer shows but at least we can think about better weather, even if we can’t see it.

Some people in the village have already started to grow and propagate so please start thinking about growing for the Summer Produce Show in Easington in August.

Last year’s event was a great success so we would like to build on that success in 2013.  There will be several categories for fruit, veg and flowers so start thinking about it and get those seeds ready.

More information will be available in future newsletters.

Church News

Church Electoral Roll.

This is updated every six years and is a list of people eligible to vote for churchwardens.  Any baptised persons over the age of sixteen who are resident in the parish are eligible to apply, also non residents who worship here on a regular basis.  The forms are available from 5, South Churchside.

Easter Sunday.

There will be a communion service on the beach at six thirty am.  Come and support Carol as she celebrates her first Easter Sunday communion of the day at the most easterly point of the benefice at dawn.

This presents us all with a challenge!  What a good opportunity to explain to children and grand-children how the women arrived very early in the morning at the tomb to find it empty, also to recreate some of the atmosphere of that first Easter Sunday.

3rd Feb 9:30am. Methodist Service at Easington

10th Feb 12noon. Holy Communion Easington.

17th Feb 10:30am. Holy Communion Easington.

24th Feb 9am. Holy Communion Skeffling.

31st Mar 6:30am. Easter Sunday. Sunrise Service on the Beach.

Contact Carol Fisher-Bailey: by email – ladyvicar@gmail.com, or phone 01964 630327 (I will not normally be publishing all the Church Services but I thought as things are changing at the moment I hope people will find it useful.  See Church News).

On Friday 18th and Saturday 19th January during somewhat inclement weather a select (and fortunate) group of people enjoyed the premiere of Gavin Repton's film about Spurn, by candlelight in Spurn lighthouse.

Entitled 'Where the Sky meets the Sea', the film includes interviews with several local people, and interesting footage.  A short trailer from it can be seen on YouTube.  The event was part of the programme organised by Harry Watkins, the Spurn Heritage Officer, as part of the preparations for a bid to the Big Lottery Fund to refurbish the lighthouse.

It will be shown again on Tuesday April 16th at 7pm in the Community Hall organised by Skeals.  Not to be missed!

Jan Crowther

An exhibition of the proposals for Spurn Lighthouse is planned for May.
