Editor's Notes

Hello Everyone, Thanks to Pam for doing the Newsletter in my absence. Well what a lot of sad news to come back to! What a blow to lose our dear friend Dorothy McHardy, I cannot express my sadness personally, and I know many of you who knew her have struggled to come to terms with her loss.  My sympathies go to Alistair and Dot’s family she will be sadly missed. Dot and Jill worked so hard organising the hanging baskets and planters, they have been beautiful and continue to be so.  Well done to the other ladies who helped to redo them in time for Dot’s funeral.

Our thoughts are also with Jan Crowther and her husband Pete, Jan is a regular contributor to our newsletter as you know and he works very hard as Clerk to the Parish Council and as the Chairperson of Skeals.  Pete had a stroke 3 weeks ago and is not at all well.  I am sure you will all join with me in wishing them well and hoping things improve soon.

Lets hope for better news in the New Year.  Have a good Christmas.

Di

Live Theatre In The Hall

A Yorkshire Christmas Carol 2011.  Enjoy a family treat for Christmas 2011 and join the much lauded Badapple Theatre for their latest 'theatre on your doorstep' production.  Writer Kate Bramley (the Land Girls of Yorkshire) and her itinerant band of actors put their classic Yorkshire comedy slant on the Dicken's Christmas story.  Have a good chuckle while the blustering, skin-flint farmer Ebeneezer Scrooge gets his comeuppance and is forced to see the error of his penny pinching ways.

Full of local stories and carols, puppets and mayhem, and new original songs by Jez Lowe, plus a whacking great dose of seasonal bon-homie, this is a winter warmer to put a smile on everyone's face this Christmas.  It is on Tuesday 13th December and starts at 7:30pm.  Tickets are £8.50 for all adults and £5 for children aged 5 to 16 years.

The play is not suitable for under 5's.  Free food and drink are included in the ticket price. Tickets are available from the Easington Post Office or Sara on 650337.  Supported by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council

Youth Club Xmas Fayre

The annual Xmas Fayre will be held in the Youth Club on Saturday 10th December from 1:30p.m.  There will be Tombola, Raffle, Tuck Shop, Xmas Crafts and Gifts, Xmas Baking including Home Baked Xmas Cakes and Biscuits.  Tea, Coffee & Biscuits will be available at 50p.

Father Christmas will be arriving to ask the children what they would like for Xmas.  Everyone is welcome.  Please come along and enjoy the afternoon with us.

Produce Show in 2012

The Youth Club will be including a Produce Show at the Annual Bogey Race and Funday which is scheduled for 26th August 2012.  It may sound a bit early to be announcing this in 2011 but if you are interested, you may want to start thinking about it now, especially if you are thinking about growing vegetables.  There will be various categories including vegetables, fruit and salads.

Page 2

There will also be Flower arranging, miniature gardens and the tallest sunflower.  We will also include sections on Preserves, Baking and Arts and Crafts.  There will be different age groups for children and sections for adults.

Further Information will be published during 2012 but this is a preliminary notice to let everyone know about the Produce Show.

So Get Growing!  Start Making! And think about the Baking!

Evergreens

This year the Evergreens switched their Xmas Shopping Trip to Doncaster from Grimsby and it proved to be a huge success.

Everybody shopped till they dropped, so this could be an annual event.

Friday, 2nd December is the Evergreen Xmas Party and we are sorry, but with the increased costs incurred over the year, invitations have only been offered to Members.

Sat 17th December is our Winter Coffee Morning, 9:30 - 11am.  This year we have a big Tombola, Raffle, Cake Stall, Bric a Brac, Knitted Hats all sizes and a second Raffle for the bedroom, this consists of double size bedding, a large canvas Flower Print for the wall, a candle, wine and chocolates.  Not telling you what colour it is, come and see for yourself!  Everybody invited even if you only come for a coffee.

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to you all from all the Evergreens.

Pat Clarke.

East End Cancer Relief

The Group presented £10,000 from their fund raising and donations to Sister Clare Norris of Ward 32 at the Cancer Centre at Castle Hill hospital on the 25th November.

The money is for the purchase of an ice-cream machine and recliner chairs for the cancer patients.

The East End Cancer Relief Christmas Draw has now started at the Crown & Anchor and will be drawn on the evening of Wednesday 21st December. The recent quiz for the ‘BBC’s Children in Need’ appeal at the Crown & Anchor raised £211.00.  The total amount raised at the Crown & Anchor from the Charity Stall, cakes, chutney etc. sale including the quiz was £482.00 for ‘Children in Need’.

Spurn Kilnsea & Easington Area Local Studies

The group are working hard on the Village Trail and are delighted to announce that Gassco has agreed to fund the publication of the book which Skeals hoped to publish to go with the Trail but was not part of the funding received from the Leader Project.

The book will include lots of photographs, interesting facts and history of the houses and buildings on the Trail.  The group would like to pass their grateful thanks to Gassco.

The Village Trail will be launched early next year, watch out for posters.
