2010

December:      Tuesday 21st December at 7:30 pm.  Carol Service in All Saints Church Easington.

 

Friday 17th December, 7pm we have carol singing in the Village Hall as St Helens church is unavailable due to the ongoing renovations taking place.

 

This months Police Surgery at Skeffling Village Hall, is on Monday 13th December between 6:00p.m. and 7:00p.m  The Police Surgery isn't specifically to report crimes in the area, but to help and advise on home security, etc.

 

On Thursday 9th December at 6:30pm.  There is carol singing in Easington Square with Barrel Organ, come and join us and get into the Christmas spirit.

 

November:      Xmas Fayre at the Village Hall, 11am Saturday, 27th November. There is a Tombola, a raffle, a cake stall and, if you missed breakfast, bacon sandwiches!  Plus a wonderful display of Christmas Table Decorations, expertly made and a wonderful addition to that special Christmas Dinner table.  All the proceeds will go to the current refurbishment of St. Helen's Church.  {Full report in the January Newsletter}

 

Easington's Halloween Dance went with a bang, literally.  The Electricity blackout  last month somewhat spoiled the event, however not to be put off the Dance will go on.  It will now be held at Easington Community Hall on Saturday, 27th November, 8pm.

The entertainment is provided by popular local band ‘Licks’ with a licensed bar until 12.30am.  Tickets are priced at £5 and can be obtained from Helen Jacobs on 01964 650402 or The Granby. (Tickets purchased last time around are still valid)

 

Coffee Morning, Trev from Easington, is holding a coffee morning at Easington Community Centre on Saturday, 20th November at 10am.  The proceeds will go towards the refurbishment of St. Helen's Church, Skeffling.

 

This months Police Surgery at Skeffling Village Hall, is on Monday 15th November between 6:00p.m. and 7:00p.m  The Police Surgery isn't specifically to report crimes in the area, but to help and advise on home security, etc.

 

Welwick Xmas Auction, this is the 47th year of the Welwick Xmas Auction, and it promises to be a good one.  It will be held at Welwick Village Hall on Friday 12th November starting at 8pm.  As usual there will be a bar, and if you've missed your supper food will be on sale.  All proceeds will be divided between five charities which include a heart charity, a kidney charity, Baby Unit, Eastend Cancer and St. Mary's Church, Welwick.  Welwick Xmas Auction is always a lot of fun, but be warned, the auctioneers have no conscience about parting you from your money.

 

Bonfire Night will be on 5th November!  Now there's a surprise.  It's a Friday, and promises to be a stupendous success.  Proceeds from the Barn Dance will go towards the fireworks and the Skeffling T'ai Chi Group have donated £100.  If you'd like to make a contribution there will be donations buckets in the Village Hall on the night, but please don't bring your own fireworks we've got plenty!  There'll be a BBQ, and home-made soup, tea, coffee and soft drinks available in the Village Hall.  {Full report in the November Newsletter}

 

October:        Barn Dance, for all you Country and Western fans with a yearning for barn dancing, here's a date to ring in red on your calendars.  It'll all be happening, dancing, music, loads of fun and an opportunity to wear your cowboy gear!  Supper will be in keeping with the night, the main course consisting of Cottage Pie and veg and the usual array of low calorie puds with lashings of fresh cream.  Here's the details. August:        On Sunday, 29th August, Easington Youth Club are holding a Fun Day on the Youth Club Field in Easington.  There will be a Car Boot or Table Top Sale; kids races; tuck shop refreshments and a Tombola, all beginning at 10.00 a.m.  This is followed by the Annual Easington Bogey Race at 2:00 p.m.  

 

The Withernsea Summertime Special is on Sunday, 29th August.  It's a full day of fun down on the Valley Gardens from 10am - 10pm.  This year there are some fantastic entertainers, including The Searchers.

 

Spurn, Kilnsea And Easington Local Studies Group have an outing to Burton Constable to view “Below Stairs and the Attic” on the 24th August, further details in this months Skeffling Newsletter.

On Saturday, 7th August, there is a night with Cherie Lawrence, the star of 40s Night. Supper will be a Chicken Roast with all the trimmings.  Ticket prices are £9 for adults, £4 for children, and £22 for a family of two adults and two children.  Donations of raffle and tombola prizes will be most welcome.  {Full report in the September Newsletter}

 

July:            To celebrate 200 years of a Lifeboat being stationed at Spurn Point.  The Spurn, Kilnsea and Easington Study Group are presenting a display of photographs and information both past and present, of the Lifeboat,the rescues,the crews and families and other aspects of life down at Spurn Point. From 1810 to the present.  Its being held at the Easington Community Hall on Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August at 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free admission and everybody is welcome.

 

There is an Afternoon Tea at the Village Hall, on Saturday 24th July.  Starting at 2pm, you can enjoy all your favourites - raffle, tombola, cake stall, etc.  {This event has been cancelled as a mark of respect.  Reason being that due to the funeral of former village stalwart Mr John Billaney taking place today & the majority of organisers, participants wishing to attend the funeral.  John and his widow Mary did an enormous amount of fund raising for the village &  St Helen’s church over several decades.}

The Police and Partners Community Forum are holding a public meeting on Wednesday 7th July, 7.00 p.m. The venue for this is the Withernsea Hospital Community Room.  All residents for the South East Holderness Ward are invited.

Paul Swann's Day, Paul Swann was our T'ai Chi Instructor, and his death last August was a great loss.  After his funeral the Skeffling T'ai Chi Group wanted to donate a contemplative bench to the village in Paul's memory. This has now become an afternoon for Paul's family and many friends to celebrate his life.

 

Paul's mother, Barbara, would like to invite anyone who knew Paul to the celebrations. The venue is Skeffling Village Hall, 19th June, 3pm.  The afternoon will be in two parts. The first part will be to carry out Paul's wishes to have his ashes scattered in Skeffling. The second part will be to commemorate a special custom made bench in Paul's memory. This will be followed by a buffet tea in the Village Hall.  If you were one of Paul's students, or a friend, and would like to join everyone on the 19th June, Barbara would be very pleased and happy to welcome you.  {Full report in the July Newsletter}

 

Naming Day Invitation on Saturday, 12th June 3.00 p.m. it's the Naming Ceremony for little Adelaide Simpson of Church House, Humber Lane, Skeffling. Her parents, Stephanie and Karl Simpson would like to invite you all to be there to help them celebrate this very special occasion in their daughter's life.  Stephanie is providing a hot buffet, but could you please bring your own booze!  {Full report in the July Newsletter}

 

Special Hog Roast.  To celebrate the completion of the Trans Pennine Trail bike ride, Mike has organised a special Hog Roast at the Village Hall on Friday, 11th June.

For this special event there is no entrance fee, but everyone will be asked to make a donation to the Stroke Ward fund.  There's entertainment, too.  A motley crew, locally known as 'The Pub Lads' - aka Charles Hill, Richard Newsam, Guy Moxon and Andy Wells will provide the music and laughs.  {Report on Skeffling Chatter}  {Full report in the July Newsletter}

 

The Annual General Meeting of the Village Hall committee is taking place on Wednesday 9th June at 7.30pm at the Village Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend, and there will also be an opportunity for anyone who would like to join the committee.

 

Welwick Quiz Night Saturday, 5th June is a date to circle in red on your calendar.  It's the date of the Welwick Quiz Night.  Even if you don't get all the answers right, it's always a lot of fun! It's at Welwick Village Hall, 7.30 for 8pm.  There's a bar and supper, so you won't get hungry or thirsty! Good luck...

 

April:            Welwick 2 wheelers annual bike ride from Moat Farm, Welwick to Kilnsea is taking place on the 2nd April.

 

March:         40s night with music and food straight from the decade.  Cherie Lawrence will be providing the music, but it won't be all from the 1940s, she's just as good at modern stuff.  Now for the fun part!  Dress will be 1940s style.
